Xsigo instructs the impact virtualisation has on data centre design.
Xsigo comment on Gartner's prediction that 80% of server workloads will be virtualised by 2015.
Berkshire - Oct 11, 2011 — A blog by Xsigo today discusses a research note, released by Gartner titled ‘Virtualisation Improves IT Functions and Processes’ within which they indicate that 40% of server workloads are virtualised today. Furthermore, Gartner suggests that the figure will increase by a dramatic 80% by 2015 to 2016.
Xsigo believes that this growth will set in motion some valuable re-engineering of the underlying data centre and states that “...beyond the obvious increase in server utilisation, the concurrent data centre modernisation will result in better power supplies, cooling, server design, etc.”
Turning its attention to its own customers, Xsigo recognises that most are already 50% (or more) virtualised, and that those which aren’t, hope to reach this level soon. Once customers have arrived at this stage, they appear to shift their businesses towards a converged infrastructure confirming the idea that virtualisation drives the need to converge. However the process cannot be a casual one, commitment is required in order to virtualise a lot.For more information on Xsigo, please click here. To read the Xsigo blog please click here
